and Legendary have announced the production of a sequel to "Minecraft: The Movie". The sequel is set to be released worldwide on July 23, 2027, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The publication notes that the first film adaptation of the video game grossed $957.8 million globally, securing the second spot in the list of the highest-grossing films of the year.
The project will once again be directed by Jared Hess, who will also co-write the screenplay with Chris Galletta, one of the original writers. Although the exact cast has not been revealed yet, the first installment featured Jack Black, Emma Meyers, Daniel Brooks, Jennifer Culidge, and Sebastian Hansen.
Following the release of the first film in theaters, a viral trend called "chicken jockey" emerged, where teenagers caused chaos during screenings by reenacting a scene where Jason Momoa's character battles a child zombie riding a chicken. Some theaters had to increase security measures as a result, as reported by the publication.
It was previously announced that the new installment of the film based on the video game Super Mario will be titled Super Mario World. According to the portal Video Games Chronicle, the title of the sequel seems fitting, especially considering the ending of the first film "The Super Mario Brothers Movie". In a post-credits scene, viewers were shown a sewer beneath New York City with a Yoshi egg. As it began to hatch, the scene faded to black, followed by Yoshi's cry.
